Solar grants for Hot Water Systems
Government solar grants could save you thousands
There are different solar grants available for installing solar hot water systems. The solar grant you receive is dependent on where you live, and the type of hot water system that you are replacing or upgrading to. The Australian Government offers a $1000 solar grant for households replacing an electric storage hot water system with a new solar hot water system. This grant is only available if you have not claimed the Australian Government Insulation Rebate, and is claimed directly from the Government, not at the point-of-sale. Check with your state or territory about other grants for hot water in your jurisdiction.

Renewable Energy Certificate (RECs) will save you even more
You can also sell the carbon credit or RECs generated through the installation of your solar hot water system. Depending on the number of RECs allocated to the system you install, the market price for RECs and where you live, you could receive up to $2,000 in additional solar grants. Your state or territory may also have its own market-based carbon credit exchange (like the VEEC scheme in Victoria) that could further reduce costs.
